Erdogan intends to buy another batch of Russian S-400
Turkey intends to buy the second batch of Russian S-400 air defense systems. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said so, reports Reuters.
"In the future, no one can interfere in what kind of defense systems we buy, what country they come from, and at what level. No one can interfere with that. Only we make these decisions," Erdogan said.
Last December, the United States imposed sanctions on Turkish officials after they purchased the first batch of Russian air defense systems.
According to Reuters, Turkey's receipt of the second batch of C-400 is almost guaranteed to lead to new U.S. sanctions.
During the NATO summer summit, Erdogan discussed the air defense issue with U.S. President Joe Biden, describing the talks as constructive.
