U.S. Armed Forces: Our Sensors Are Not Enough to Detect Russian Hypersonic Missiles

Head of Strategic Command of the U.S. Armed Forces Charles Richard said that U.S. military sensors are not effective enough to detect the presence of hypersonic missiles, and Russia is a leader in creating this type of weapon. He said this at the annual symposium on space and missile defense.

“Because of these problems, our current architecture of ground- and space-based sensors may not be sufficient to detect and track these hypersonic missiles,” he said.

Russia continues to invest a lot of money in developing hypersonic aircraft, he said.

“Zirkon” is the world's first sea-based hypersonic cruise missile, its flight speed reaches about nine sound speeds, the maximum range is up to 1 thousand kilometers.
