American B-52s carried out airstrikes on Taliban positions

US Air Force B-52 bombers carried out airstrikes on a cluster of Taliban militants in northern Afghanistan, the country's Defense Ministry said.

“Tonight... In the city of Sheboygan, Jowzjan province, a group of Taliban was fired at by a B-52 aircraft. The terrorists suffered heavy losses as a result of an airstrike by the US Air Force,” Fawad Aman, a spokesman for the ministry, said on Twitter.

No other details are given.

Earlier it was reported that the United States sent B-52 Stratofortress bombers to Afghanistan, as well as Lockheed AC-130 Spectre support aircraft to fight against Taliban militants.

Currently, there is a confrontation between government forces and Taliban militants in Afghanistan against the background of the withdrawal of the US military contingent from the country, which has been there since 2001. Last year, the United States and the Taliban signed a truce agreement — as part of the agreements, American troops must leave Afghanistan by September 11.

The day before, the Taliban took control of the province of Jowzjan.
