The US State Department has begun searching for a six thousand dollar bottle of whiskey donated by Pompeo

The US State Department is looking for a bottle of whiskey worth $5.8 thousand, which was presented to former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in 2019. This is reported by The New York Times.

According to them, the annual report of the US Federal Register for 2019 says that an expensive gift was received from the Japanese authorities. However, according to American laws, the Secretary of State could not accept the bottle, since its cost significantly exceeded the threshold of $390.

It is not known whether Pompeo received a gift, given that at that time he was on a working trip to Saudi Arabia. Pompeo's lawyer also said that he has no idea about the bottle and its possible location.

Among the expensive gifts received by Pompeo in 2019, there are carpets from the authorities of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and the UAE in the amount of 20 thousand dollars — they were sent to various US institutions. And former US President Donald Trump received $120,000 worth of foreign gifts in the same year. At the same time, the leaders of Australia, Egypt, and Vietnam gave him portraits of himself

In mid-July, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in an interview with Fox News, called on President Joe Biden to be tougher with Russia and make it clear to Moscow about the serious and rapid consequences of cyberattacks that the American side accuses.
