Republicans of the International Affairs Committee suggest that the virus leaked from a laboratory in Wuhan around September 12, 2019.

The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus “leaked” from the laboratory of the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The corresponding report was provided by the chief Republican of the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, Mac McCaul. This is reported by Reuters.

According to the report, scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, with the support of American and Chinese experts and government funds, worked on genetic changes in coronaviruses that could lead to human infection.

According to The Hill, Mac McCall demanded that Congress impose sanctions on scientists from the Wuhan laboratory, as well as on representatives of the Communist Party of China. Zoologist Peter Daszak, who represented the United States as part of an international group of experts, is also accused of involvement in the incident. Republicans believe that he should stand trial.

According to Fox News, a few months before the covid outbreak, the Wuhan National Biosafety Laboratory requested tenders for the overhaul of air safety systems and waste treatment in research centers that had been operating for less than two years.

“Such a significant repair immediately after the start of operation of the facility seems unusual,” the report notes.
