Chinese scientists have determined the origin of the coronavirus
Scientists from China considered the artificial origin of the SARS-CoV-2 virus unlikely. The results of the new study are published in the journal Science China Life Sciences, Xinhua reports.
It is noted that more than 20 scientists working at universities and hospitals of the People's Republic of China took part in the study. According to the results of their work, they found out that the coronavirus, which caused the pandemic, was able to quickly adapt to the human population. At the same time, the evolution of adaptive capabilities is a gradual and multi-stage process associated with natural selection, the report says.
A virus that adapts well to the environment should be a product of natural selection, the result of “many random mutations over a long time,” the researchers concluded.
Earlier it was reported that the administration of the President of the United States Joe Biden has equal confidence in two theories of the origin of the coronavirus-a natural one and a leak from a virology laboratory in China.
Earlier, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus, said that China could not provide enough data on the origin of SARS-CoV-2, while there was no “transparency and cooperation” in this information.
