Hundreds of vaccinated health care workers contracted COVID-19
Thailand's health ministry said more than 600 health workers who received two doses of China's Sinovac vaccine were infected with COVID-19, Reuters reported.
According to the ministry, between April and July, 677,348 health workers were vaccinated and 618 of them became infected. It is noted that one vaccinated health worker died of the coronavirus, another is now in critical condition.
The group of experts recommended a third dose to induce immunity in medical workers who are at risk, the Health Ministry said. To date, more than a dozen vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the world.
Seven of them — AstraZeneca, Sinovac and Sinopharm, Pfizer/BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson, and Moderna — have been approved by the WHO. “It will be another vaccine, an AstraZeneca viral vector or mRNA vaccine, that Thailand will get soon,” said ministry official Sopon Yamsiritawon.
Sinovac is the second vaccine developed in China to receive WHO validation. The first Chinese vaccine from Sinopharm was approved on May 7. The third Chinese vaccine, produced by CanSino Biologics, submitted clinical trial data.
