Elon Musk may build a high-speed underground car tunnel in Florida

The mayor of the American resort town of Fort Lauderdale in Florida, Dean Trantalis, plans to order the construction of an underground car tunnel from the company owned by Elon Musk, The Boring Company, which will connect the central area to the beach. As reported by CNN.

“This could be a really innovative way to reduce traffic congestion,” Trantalis explained his decision, adding that other firms would be given 45 days in which to make a counteroffer.

Once the tunnel is built, The Boring Company will give residents and tourists the option of driving from downtown Fort Lauderdale to the beach in a Tesla for $5 to $8 per person. Right now, a similar cab ride costs $10, according to aggregator Uber.

The project is called The Las Olas Loop, and it consists of the names of a local elevated road and a transportation system being designed by Musk. The Loop transportation system is already in operation in the U.S., with the first tunnel opening last month in Las Vegas, Nevada.
